Let me tell you about some of these things that I have had personal experience with, and how coaching helped me to address them.
Stress and Anxiety
We’ve all had stress (and anxiety) in our lives at some point, right?
And, most of the time, it’s “manageable”, right?
We “manage“ it. We “control” it. “No big deal”. Right?
But life isn’t always fair or straightforward and can sometimes give us more stress and anxiety than we actually can manage. So there will be times when we don’t manage it and it ends up controlling us.
And, as I said previously, this in turn can lead to some of the other things on the above list appearing in our lives (it did to me!).
But there are ways we can “re-learn” how to positively manage our stress and anxiety so that we can take back control of our lives and live the way we really want to. I did!
Anger
It’s only natural to get angry, isn’t it? With your boss, your partner, your kids, the driver who cuts you up on the motorway, the colleague who doesn’t reply to your “urgent” email, and so on.
Yes, this is perfectly natural and, ordinarily, the feeling is temporary and soon disappears so that we return to our usual “non-angry” state.
However …. what happens if we don’t return to our usual non-angry state?
What happens if these situations continue to make us infuriated or aggravated, (or whatever word for “angry” we might choose) even long after they’ve happened?
Well …. what happens is that this constant anger we’re trying hard to control is actually lurking just beneath the surface and can be triggered by almost anything.
This happened to me – but it’s not the way we really want to live our lives, is it?
As an aside, my wife used to describe me as a cross between a “grumpy old man” (see the old TV series) and the Incredible Hulk – I’ll leave that to your imagination!
But, with help, I learned how not to let anger affect me and the way I live my life (and I haven’t ripped out of my clothes since!).
Confidence
Everyone has different levels of confidence. Some people struggle a bit with confidence while others appear to be “super confident”. That’s life, isn’t it?
But what if we’re suffering from low confidence – or we’ve even lost it completely?
This can (and does) happen for any number of reasons. Criticism from a manager, a partner or a friend. No longer being able to do what we used to just take for granted. Making a speech in public. Fear of the future in relation to jobs, money, or whatever.
Confidence was never something I particularly struggled with. Although I was never super confident, I got through most situations in life without too many problems.
However, I began to notice that, as life went by I had to work a bit harder on keeping up my confidence levels.
The good news (as I found out myself) is that, with help, confidence levels no longer need be a thing and can always be improved and developed – for everyone – even for those who are (allegedly) ‘super confident’!
So …. I’ve shared my views on some of the things on the (far from exhaustive) list above about which I have personal experience so you can understand that I’ve been there myself. Which means that I know what you’re going through.
This also means that I can help you with whatever thing (or things) you want to change in your life so that you can live the way you really want to.
