I’ve kept in touch with a former client (let’s call him Jack) who had come to me for coaching well over a year ago and who recently had his birthday (thank you Facebook!). So naturally I wished him a happy birthday.
But I want to jump back in time. Early on during our sessions, Jack told me that he and his dad weren’t speaking (for reasons I won’t bore you with) which was upsetting him. We worked on this and Jack became much more calm about it.
About an hour after one particular session, Jack called me and said his dad had just phoned him out of the blue to ask how he was. Jack then asked me if I’d had anything to do with this and I told him I didn’t even know who his dad was! Anyway, Jack came back for his next session and told me that he and his father were now back on good terms.
Now, I can’t explain what happened here – only that Jack and his dad hadn’t been speaking for quite some time, that Jack had worked on accepting this and then, hey presto, his dad called him out of the blue!
Back to now. Jack later thanked me on Facebook for wishing him a happy birthday – which was when I saw a long comment from his dad about how proud he was of Jack as his son and as a father to his grandkids.
So …. a proud dad and a happy Jack. Coincidence (or not)?
